2nd MRQ Toy run

9th Ipswich Toy Run

From all reports the run was a huge success [sorry as family stuff to do].

With over 700 enthusiasts turning out again at a fairly slow 14 km ride to the turf club.  Got an interesting email after the run from our old matey Terry [Lubo] concerning Alan Greyâ€™s accident.

Email cut and pasted below FYI:

After the recent Ippy toy run a few people ended up back at kiwiâ€™s place for a few drinks they enjoyed quite a few drinks and at the end of the day, Al was offered a lift home with someone who was able to drive. He refused, thinking it isnâ€™t farâ€¦.sheâ€™ll be right. Being a hot day, Al decided to not wear any protective gear on the bike. We are talking no jacket, boots etc. Just a T-shirt  and other clothing which doesnâ€™t protect the skin, were worn. He was wearing a helmet!!!!!

He headed off, making it past the Esk turnoff heading towards Walloon on the highway. As he accelerated out into the 100 KPH zone, he normally rolled off the throttle and let the bike cruise along at the limit.  On this day he did the same thing (Maybe a bit faster than usual), except this time he snapped off the throttle quickly. This caused the bike to â€œTank Slapâ€, or shake its head. If you havenâ€™t experienced thisâ€¦.donâ€™tâ€¦. it is one way to quickly make you require an underwear change. It is very violent and most times you donâ€™t have a chance of staying on the bike.

He found himself sliding down the road, skin grinding off and he is aware of the Armco coming up. The only way to get away from it was to steer himself with his feet. I can only imagine the pain this would have caused! He finally comes to a rest. A passing motorist assists him and soon the Police also appear. He is taken to Ipswich where the tests are carried outâ€¦.He blew 0.173. Obviously by now he knows that he is in trouble. He puts a call in to get friends to come and pick him up The subsequent court case has resulted in $750 fine and 7-months loss of license.

Al wants to tell everyone that he made many stupid (his words) mistakes this day.

1. Drink Driving- Not on â€¦Accept a lift, thatâ€™s what friends do

2. Protective gear wear it, the road is a big cheese grater!!!!

3. Speed â€¦he didnâ€™t get home any quicker this day!!!

What has this caused? As mentioned he now has to rely on friends and family to get around. The pain he is going though, 2nd degree burns to his body, damaged bike, damaged reputation and loss of money. And he is lucky to still be with us!!!
Itâ€™s not worth itâ€¦.this could have been avoided with a few well thought out decisions. Iâ€™m sure Al would be happy to convey this message too!!!!

So we decide to head for Cararra markets 
Another wet miserable Sunday morning saw the truly touched fanatical element of the club arrive in moist conditions to a Sunday run.
Hazza and Dot no surprise as I reckon heâ€™d go to the opening of an envelope if he could ride his bike there. Properly why he got member of the year last year!!

â€œThe old girlâ€ Heading of through Wet Ippy the skies clear and it became a great riding day as we passed mouseâ€™s house on Blackstone road. Heading thru Inala Lakes to Greenbank we found a few interesting new road with few great Twistieâ€™s. Heading up to pie shop on Mt Tamborine where we partook a few of the house specialities. Canâ€™t beet a hot pie on a bike ride.. Mounting up, thru Oxenford to Carrara markets. I thought we were in trouble here as every time Dottie pulls Hazza off on side of the road, somewhere, it rains again, well luckily a just quick sprinkle this time and that couldnâ€™t damped our sprites. By the time we reached the market the sun had found its full force and we were all stripping faster than a 2-dollar tart.
Wandering thru the market we found a few other Ulyssesians of the species Mt Lindsay. After a few catch up remarks we invite ourselves on to the rest of their ride up thru Canungra and make to Greenbank. Ashley and Adrian and Amanda Dropped off an headed for home while the remaining 3 Lockyerian pressed on with the Mt Lindsay branch. Arriving in Canungra to discover my new rear tyre failed to hold Air Bugger. After a rummage, thru the Ned Kelly t-shirt and biker memorabilia shop. Which is well worth a look. The Mt Lindsay Roadside Assistance Crew flew into action with multiple can of tyre repair foam.. After my last experience with this white shit I was sceptical. Still it lasted til we almost reached the sports club armed with another tube of the goo
We leapfrogged our way home stoping at ever servo to top up the vanishing tyre pressure.. Still made it home not a Ute or trailer required. Sorry Lazza you still the holder of the Blue Heeler Award as â€œthe old girl â€œdid make it home on her own almostâ€¦

It was a good roll up. The day got off to a bit of a shakey start (no pun intended), what with the guest of honour being late due to his bike breaking down and stressing out over having to fill his bike before the ride. It's worth noting it took a whole $2.50 to fill it.
Then with the car trailer collapsing under the LVUB president's weight, leaving Dottie with a nasty injury - 5 stitches to her left ankle. Law suit pending!
As I had previous commitments on the day, I had to leave shortly after 9.00am. Still it must have been a good ride. Shame the guest of honour got left at a servo and eventually made it to Kholo Gardens, thanks to John and Anne for realising that he was missing and collecting him from home. 
Sounds like a good day was had. Thank you Mr Guest whoever you are.
Lubo said: Although I wasn't there, I would like to thank all who attended the ride for Andrew. From what I heard there was about 80 bikes there in the morning before heading off on their own rides. Wow what a turnout. The support was greatly appreciated by Andrew and others who organised it all. It goes to show that we are very supportive of each other and that's what it is all about. When I heard it, it made me very proud to be involved with a great bunch of people. Well done guys!!!!!
